Nick Caramela is a freelance Sound Designer and Sound Effects Editor, who has established himself in the post production sound industry through his extensive experience in various roles over the years. His expertise extends beyond just Sound Effects Editor and Sound Designer, as he has also excelled as a Foley Artist/Editor, Machine Room and Transfer Technician, VO/Podcast Engineer, and Mix Stage Technician and Manager. Through these roles, Nick has incorporated his experiences to create a creative, technical, and collaborative and unique style and process. Looking ahead, he is focused on expanding his professional network and honing his skills further, with the ultimate aim of achieving recognition as a seasoned Supervising Sound Editor, Sound Designer, and Re-recording Mixer.


Education | Awards | Honors

Nick has earned a BFA in Sound Design at Savannah College of Art and Design, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA. In addition, he has also earned an Avid Pro Tools 11 HD 210P Operator’s certification.

While attending college, Nick was awarded the 2015 Verna Fields Golden Reel for his work as a sound effects editor on the short film Sea Odyssey. The same year, he received an additional nomination for the Verna Fields Golden Reel for his work as a foley artist and editor on the short film HOMINID. He has also received a 2016-2017 Primetime Emmy Awards Honor for contributions to Emmy Award winning achievement "Outstanding sound editing for a limited series, movie or special" for HBO's The Night Of: "Subtle Beast.


Carreer

Nick first began his career at a jingle house in NYC called Human Worldwide where he interned in the machine room where he cut temp music for commercials, and dealt with daily transfers to and from clients. He then began working as a Foley Assistant at C5 Sound Inc at their Foley studio in Northvale, NJ. There he learned the craft of Foley from renowned Foley Artist Marko A. Costanzo, and renowned Foley Engineer George Lara. In 2016 he was honored by the Primetime Emmys Foundation for his work on HBO’s The Night Of “Subtle Beast” as a Foley Assistant. After a year of assisting Marko and George, Nick began working at Soundtrack Group: New York as a Sound Designer, Sound Effects Editor, Foley Artist, and Mix Technician, and mix stage manager, where he further developed a range of skills and experience in the post production industry. After 6 years of service, Nick made the jump to his current freelance position, working mainly as a Sound Effects Editor and Sound Designer.
